Karwar medical student dies, another injured in Goa road accident

Karwar: A tragic road accident near Mashem in Goa claimed the life of a 23-year-old medical student from Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), while another student sustained serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Adarsh Poojari, a third-year MBBS student at KIMS. His classmate, Raunakh Chawla, who was riding pillion, suffered critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of KIMS Hospital, Karwar.

According to police sources, the two students were returning to Karwar from Canacona in South Goa on a Royal Enfield motorcycle when a cow suddenly appeared on the highway. In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Adarsh lost control of the bike, causing it to skid and crash. Both students were thrown onto the road, sustaining multiple injuries.

Locals rushed to their aid and immediately shifted them to the Canacona Community Health Centre. However, Adarsh was declared dead on arrival, while Raunakh was referred to KIMS Hospital in Karwar for advanced treatment.

The sudden death of Adarsh Poojari has shocked fellow students and faculty at KIMS Medical College. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
