Gram panchayat member shot dead in Vijayapura outskirts, police launch probe

Vijayapura: Tension gripped the outskirts of Vijayapura after unidentified assailants shot dead a gram panchayat member near Aliyabad, marking yet another incident of gun violence in the region.
The victim has been identified as Raju Khare, a resident of Tangarun Doddi village. According to preliminary information, the attackers opened fire at close range and reportedly fired six rounds at the victim. Even after he collapsed, the assailants allegedly pelted stones at the body before fleeing the scene, indicating the brutality of the attack.
Local residents were shocked by the incident, which occurred in a relatively quiet area on the city’s outskirts. Soon after the gunshots were heard, people gathered at the spot and alerted the police.
Police teams from Vijayapura rushed to the scene and began an initial investigation. Senior officials, including Laxman Nimbargi, visited the crime spot and collected details. A dog squad and the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team were also deployed to gather forensic evidence and trace clues that could lead to the identification of the accused.
Authorities have registered a case and launched a manhunt to track down the perpetrators. While the exact motive behind the killing remains unclear, police suspect that personal rivalry or local disputes could have led to the attack.
The incident has raised serious concerns over law and order in the region, with residents demanding stricter policing and surveillance in vulnerable areas. Officials have assured that all efforts are being made to apprehend the accused at the earliest.
