Four youths killed as car rams into sugarcane tractor near Jamkhandi
Bagalkote: In a tragic late-night accident, four young men were killed on the spot after the car they were travelling in rammed into a stationary sugarcane-laden tractor near the Prabhulingeshwar Sugar Factory in Siddapur village around 12.30 am on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Vishwanath Kumbar (17), Praveen Shedabal (22), Ganesh Allimatti (20) and Prajwal Shedabal (17), all residents of Siddapur.
According to police sources, the group of friends was heading towards Shirol to attend the Kadasiddeshwar temple fair late at night when the mishap occurred. The tractor, loaded with sugarcane for supply to the nearby sugar factory, had been parked on the roadside along the Bijapur–Belagavi state highway. The speeding car is suspected to have lost control and crashed into the rear of the tractor.
The impact was so severe that the car got completely lodged under the tractor, killing all four occupants instantly. Visuals from the spot showed the vehicle crushed beyond recognition.
Upon receiving information, Jamkhandi Rural Police rushed to the location and, with the help of locals, recovered the bodies trapped inside the mangled car. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine whether overspeeding, poor visibility, or lack of reflectors on the tractor contributed to the accident.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over Siddapur village, as the victims were known to be close friends and active in local community events.
