Fake ‘guru’ arrested for cheating people with Ayurvedic remedies
Bengaluru: The Jnana Bharathi Police Bengaluru have arrested a fake ‘guru,’ Vijay Gurujji, who was allegedly deceiving people by promising to cure sexual and other health issues with Ayurvedic medicines.
The scam came to light after an investigation revealed that Vijay Gurujji had swindled Rs 48 lakh from a techie, and similar fraudulent activities were uncovered across the state. The accused, identified as Vijay Gurujji, had been operating with the help of an accomplice, who was also arrested.
According to police, Vijay set up tents on the roadside where he sold fake Ayurvedic medicines to people suffering from various ailments, particularly sexual health problems. He targeted vulnerable individuals, offering them herbal powders and concoctions as miracle cures.
Initially, Vijay would con people by collecting small amounts of money—ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000—by promising them relief. However, his scams escalated when he manipulated a techie into believing that he could completely resolve his sexual issues.
Over time, the techie handed over a total of Rs 48 lakh, trusting Vijay’s assurances. Once the large sum was extorted, the scam artist disappeared.
The techie, frustrated and financially drained, finally approached the police, leading to a detailed investigation. During the probe, authorities discovered that Vijay Gurujji had defrauded many others across the state in a similar manner.
The police have launched a broader investigation into the fraudulent activities of the accused and his accomplice. Authorities have urged the public to be cautious of such fake ‘gurus’ who prey on vulnerable individuals with false promises.
