
Bengaluru has added a major piece of road infrastructure with the inauguration of the much awaited SM Krishna Road. Built by the Bangalore Development Authority at a cost of Rs 631 crore the new corridor is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Mysuru Road and Magadi Road while easing traffic congestion across the western part of the city.
The new 10 lane road stretches for 10.7 kilometres linking Challaghatta Metro Station on Mysuru Road with Kadabagere Cross on Magadi Road. Developed with a width of 100 metres the corridor has been designed to handle heavy traffic and support future urban expansion.
The inauguration coincides with Kempegowda Jayanti adding symbolic importance to the project. The road also provides seamless connectivity to all nine blocks of the Kempegowda Layout making travel easier for residents and visitors alike.
Several modern infrastructure features have been incorporated into the project including three major underpasses eleven bridges a 270 metre tunnel a wide central median service roads and a dedicated cycling track. These additions are expected to improve both safety and traffic flow for motorists and cyclists.
Thousands of commuters travelling to Bengaluru from Kengeri Mysuru Magadi Hassan Kunigal Mandya Ramanagara and nearby regions are expected to benefit from the new corridor. The road is also likely to reduce travel time by providing a signal free route into the city.
The newly opened corridor will serve as a toll free alternative to the NICE Road offering motorists another convenient option for entering and exiting Bengaluru. Public access to the road is expected to begin from Sunday bringing immediate relief to daily commuters and commercial vehicle operators who regularly use this route.
