Bose Launches New Sport and Ultra Open Earbuds

Bose Sport Open Earbuds and Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen bring open ear designs with up to nine hours battery and Bluetooth connectivity designed for fitness outdoor and everyday listening.

Bose has expanded its open ear audio range with two new products, the Sport Open Earbuds and Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen. Both models are designed to sit around the ear rather than sealing the ear canal, giving users a different way to listen to music while staying aware of their surroundings.

The new models are aimed at different types of users. The Sport Open Earbuds focus more on active use, while the Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen build on the design of the original Ultra Open Earbuds with improvements to sound performance.

Bose Sport Open Earbuds are priced at USD 199, while the Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen cost USD 299. Both models are available for preorder, with sales scheduled to begin on October 1 through Bose and selected retailers.

The Sport Open Earbuds will be available in Black, White Smoke and a limited edition Eucalyptus Green finish. The Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen will come in Black, White Smoke, Cherry Chocolate, Olive Green and Sky Pink options.

The Sport model has been designed with a specially developed dynamic driver and a C arm cuff that wraps around the ear. The soft silicone matte finish is intended to provide a comfortable fit during movement.

Its open ear construction makes the earbuds particularly suited to activities where users may want to remain aware of sounds around them. Bose is positioning the model for running, fitness and outdoor activities rather than only conventional indoor listening.

The Sport Open Earbuds include two microphones and carry an IP54 rating for resistance against dust and water exposure. The body uses polycarbonate and silicone materials, keeping the overall design focused on durability and everyday comfort.

Battery life is rated at up to seven hours on a single charge. Bose says the earbuds take around one hour to reach a full charge. Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity are supported, and the earbuds can be managed through the Bose app.

The Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen retain the cuff shaped appearance seen on the first generation model. Instead of sitting inside the ear, the earbuds remain positioned around the ear, allowing the user to hear music while maintaining awareness of the surrounding environment.

Bose has also introduced a new driver for the second generation model. The company says it delivers deeper bass and higher volume compared with the previous generation, giving the newer earbuds a stronger audio focus.

The Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen also feature two microphones and an IPX4 rating for water resistance. The construction combines polycarbonate and silicone, while charging is handled through a USB Type C connection.

Battery life is one of the major differences between the two models. The Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen are rated to provide up to nine hours of listening on a single charge, compared with up to seven hours for the Sport version. A full charge takes about one hour.

Wireless connectivity on the Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen uses Bluetooth 5.4, with a stated range of up to 30 feet. The earbuds are also compatible with the Bose app, allowing users to manage supported settings and features.

The open ear approach used by both products may appeal to people who do not want traditional in ear earbuds. Because the ear canal remains open, users can continue to hear surrounding sounds while listening to audio.

The two models therefore have a similar basic concept but are aimed at slightly different needs. The Sport Open Earbuds place greater emphasis on active lifestyles, while the Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen focus on longer battery life and an enhanced audio experience.

With the launch, Bose is continuing to expand a category that has gained attention among consumers looking for alternatives to conventional sealed earbuds. Pricing, colour choices, battery life and water resistance will be among the key details buyers may consider when choosing between the two models.
