Couple arrested for deliberately ramming bike, killing youth in Bengaluru
Bengaluru : In a shocking case of road rage turned fatal, a couple has been arrested for allegedly chasing down a biker for nearly two kilometers and deliberately ramming their car into him, killing him on the spot. The incident took place late on October 25 in Puttenahalli police limits.
The arrested have been identified as Manoj (32) and his wife Aarti Sharma (29), residents of Arakere. The deceased, Darshan (22), was a food delivery worker from Kempathahalli. His friend Varun, who was riding pillion, suffered minor injuries in the attack.
According to police, the couple’s car mirror had brushed against Darshan and Varun’s bike, leading to a brief altercation. Darshan reportedly apologized and drove away, but the enraged couple decided to pursue them. Investigators said Manoj and Aarti followed the bikers for about two kilometers before intentionally hitting their motorcycle from behind.
The collision threw both riders onto the road, causing severe head injuries to Darshan, who died instantly. The couple sped away from the scene without stopping to help.
The entire act was captured on CCTV cameras, which revealed that the car was intentionally driven into the bike. Later, the accused returned to the scene wearing masks to retrieve broken parts of their vehicle to destroy evidence, police said.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s sister, Puttenahalli police registered a murder case under BNS section 103 and arrested the couple. They were produced before court and remanded to judicial custody.
“Investigation clearly shows it was not an accident but a deliberate act of murder committed in anger,” said DCP (South Division) Lokesh Jagalsar.
