Chennai Super Kings Part Ways with Michael Hussey Ahead of IPL 2027

After naming a new head coach, the five-time champions have now ended their eight-year association with batting coach Michael Hussey, marking another significant change to the team's support staff.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have intensified their coaching overhaul ahead of the IPL 2027 player auction. After naming a new head coach, the five-time champions have now ended their eight-year association with batting coach Michael Hussey, marking another significant change to the team’s support staff.

Widely known as “Mr. Cricket,” Hussey represented CSK as a player for six seasons from 2008 before joining the coaching staff in 2018. Over the years, he played a significant role in shaping the team’s batting unit and contributed to several successful IPL campaigns. However, the franchise has now decided to end its long-standing association with the former Australian cricketer.

According to reports, Chennai Super Kings took the decision after the team failed to deliver the expected performances over the last two IPL seasons. As part of a broader restructuring process, the franchise has opted to revamp its coaching staff ahead of the new season.

Following a major overhaul of its coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027, Chennai Super Kings have appointed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their new head coach following the departure of Stephen Fleming. The franchise has also parted ways with bowling coach Eric Simons, with former CSK pacer Mohit Sharma taking over the role.

Meanwhile, the contract extension of current fielding coach James Foster has reportedly been put on hold, indicating that the franchise could make further changes to its coaching staff before the new season.

Reports suggest that Chennai Super Kings have begun searching for a replacement for Michael Hussey. The franchise is said to be giving preference to former Indian batters, particularly those who have previously represented CSK in the IPL.

Meanwhile, Michael Hussey is reportedly in discussions with several other IPL franchises regarding potential coaching opportunities ahead of the 2027 season.
