Gold prices remained under pressure after January due to global geopolitical uncertainties. However, rates surged on August 24, reaching their highest level since March. Following that peak, gold prices entered a declining phase from the final week of August and continued to weaken throughout the week. The trend reversed on Friday, with gold witnessing a strong recovery in the market.

The recent increase in gold prices is linked to expectations regarding the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate decisions. Expectations of a rate hike by the Federal Reserve in October have weakened, which has impacted the value of the US dollar.

In India, gold is not just a precious metal; it represents culture, tradition, and financial security. Gold jewellery holds a special place, especially among Indian women, and purchasing gold during weddings, festivals, birthdays, and other auspicious occasions is considered a long-standing tradition.

For many middle-class families, gold is viewed as both a savings option and an investment. Many people consider buying gold more secure than keeping money in a bank, as it can be used during emergencies by selling or pledging it.

Giving gold jewellery such as necklaces, bangles, and ornaments to daughters during weddings is also considered a matter of pride and is often seen as a symbol of social status.
