Karnataka Bank Appoints Dr. M Aruna Shyam as Additional Independent Director
Karnataka Bank has appointed Dr. M. Aruna Shyam as Additional Non-Executive Independent Director for a four-year term. The noted Senior Advocate brings over two decades of legal expertise to the Bank's Board.
Mangaluru: Private sector lender Karnataka Bank Ltd. has appointed Dr. M. Aruna Shyam as an Additional Director (Non-Executive, Independent) on its Board for a period of four years, effective July 18, 2026.
The appointment is subject to the approval of the bank’s shareholders in accordance with the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, and the applicable provisions of the Companies Act, 2013.
Dr. M. Aruna Shyam holds a postgraduate degree in Business Law and a Doctorate in Law (Constitutional and Criminal Law). He has been actively practising law since 2004 and has appeared before Civil Courts, various Tribunals, Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs), the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), the High Court of Karnataka, and the Supreme Court of India.
With over two decades of legal experience, he has built expertise across a wide range of disciplines, including Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Co-operative, Corporate, Banking, Labour, Insurance, and Service Laws.
Between 2020 and 2023, Dr. Aruna Shyam served as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Karnataka, representing the State in several significant constitutional, statutory, and public law matters before the Karnataka High Court and other judicial forums.
He was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Karnataka on December 14, 2021. Since then, he has appeared before various High Courts and other judicial forums across the country, representing clients in complex and high-stakes litigation while also providing legal advisory services.
Karnataka Bank stated that the appointment of Dr. M. Aruna Shyam as a Non-Executive Independent Director will further strengthen its Board by bringing extensive legal expertise, sound governance experience, and a distinguished professional background to the institution.
