IndiGo flight disruptions ease, cancellations drop to 650 on Sunday
Bengaluru: After a week of significant flight disruptions, IndiGo Airlines has managed to reduce the number of cancellations considerably. The airline’s operations showed a remarkable improvement, with the number of cancelled flights dropping to 650 on Sunday.
For the past few days, IndiGo has been grappling with widespread delays and cancellations, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers. However, by Sunday, the disruptions had significantly decreased, with the airline managing approximately 1,650 of its daily 2,300 flights, marking a substantial recovery in its operations.
The airline noted that the previous days’ operational chaos had caused hundreds of cancellations and delays, affecting thousands of travelers across the country. As of Sunday, IndiGo was successfully operating 1,650 flights, including both domestic and international services.
Refunds and baggage issues resolved:
IndiGo has processed a refund of ₹610 crores for affected passengers. In addition to this, the airline reported the delivery of approximately 3,000 pieces of lost luggage across the country by Saturday. The government, on Sunday, confirmed that these efforts were aimed at restoring normalcy in the airline’s operations.
IndiGo’s CEO, Pieter Elbers, provided an update regarding the situation, stating that the company had implemented corrective measures to further improve the system and operations. He said, “We have been able to implement cancellations at an early stage to ensure that passengers are not unnecessarily traveling to airports for cancelled flights.” He also added that the airline was aiming for an on-time performance (OTP) of 75% by Sunday.
Progress in recovery efforts
IndiGo has also reported that it expects to stabilize operations by December 10, 2025, compared to previous disruptions during the same period. The airline’s parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, formed a crisis management team to oversee the situation and ensure refunds for affected passengers.
“Following the recent disruptions, we are making further significant and continuous improvements across our network,” an IndiGo spokesperson said. “As of Sunday, we are operating over 1,650 flights, an increase from around 1,500 flights on Friday.”
On-time performance and operational improvements
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s website, IndiGo’s on-time performance improved by 20.7% at six major metro airports across the country as of Saturday morning. By Friday, the airline had cancelled about 1,600 flights, but the cancellations decreased significantly to around 800 on Saturday.
While the disruptions that plagued the airline for the past week have shown improvement, IndiGo continues to work towards restoring its full operational capacity. The situation is expected to stabilize further as efforts to improve flight operations and manage cancellations continue.
