Bengaluru: Once again, heavy rains have thrown life out of gear in the Silicon City. Within an hour of intense downpour on Friday night , several major roads in the city were submerged, leaving motorists struggling to wade through flooded stretches.
Barely a day after a 30-minute rain had caused severe waterlogging, one-hour spell turned several key areas into virtual swimming pools. Pothole-ridden roads have turned treacherous, forcing two-wheeler riders to maneuver through knee-deep water.
Areas including Majestic, Anand Rao Circle, Sivananda Circle, Malleshwaram, Chamarajpet, Corporation, and Lalbagh reported heavy rainfall and traffic snarls. The outer zones such as Electronic City, Peenya, Sarjapur, and Mahadevapura also witnessed relentless downpours.
Waterlogging was reported in central Bengaluru, with drains overflowing and rainwater spilling over footpaths. In several low-lying areas, water entered houses and shops, causing major inconvenience to residents. Motorists were seen stranded on water-filled roads, unable to distinguish between potholes and pathways.
In Sarjapur and Koramangala, frustrated commuters complained that poor road maintenance and blocked drains had made the situation worse. Thunder and lightning accompanied the rain in some parts of the city, further slowing down movement.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Bengaluru for the next three days, warning of continued heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. The alert also covers surrounding districts Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagar, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Chikkaballapur, Kodagu, and Hassan.
Emergency response teams have been deployed to clear clogged drains and assist stranded vehicles as Bengaluru grapples with yet another episode of monsoon chaos.
