Indian Messaging App Arattai Introduces Sticker Creation from Photos Alongside Chat Backup Support

Zoho’s messaging app Arattai now allows users to turn photos into stickers while offering chat backup support, aiming to compete with WhatsApp in India’s growing digital messaging market.

Zoho-owned messaging platform Arattai has rolled out a fresh update, giving users the ability to convert any photo into a sticker for their chats. Users can snap pictures directly through the app or select images from their gallery to instantly create custom stickers, making conversations more personal and engaging.

This is the second major update from Arattai in the last ten days. Earlier, on March 21, the app introduced a chat backup feature, allowing Android users to store their encrypted conversations on Google Drive and iOS users to back up on iCloud. The addition ensures both data safety and convenience, letting users restore their chats whenever needed.

Arattai continues to differentiate itself from WhatsApp by offering features not currently available on its rival. Users can chat via usernames without sharing mobile numbers, organize messages, media, and notes in the cloud, and schedule video meetings through the app’s dedicated “Meetings” tab.

Despite these upgrades, some functionalities remain absent when compared to WhatsApp, including payments, event creation, disappearing messages, and advanced chat security options. The app did, however, introduce a privacy-focused update last year that enabled end-to-end encryption for all direct chats, ensuring messages are secured before they are sent.

The app has gained attention in India as a domestic alternative to WhatsApp. It drew notable support when IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan endorsed it as a “desi” messaging option, encouraging users to consider homegrown platforms in the country’s growing digital communication space.

With its new photo-to-sticker feature and ongoing improvements, Arattai is positioning itself as a versatile and secure messaging platform while keeping a clear focus on the Indian market.
