RCB and RR Sale: March 2026 has marked a historic turning point for the Indian Premier League (IPL), with both Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) being sold in record-breaking multi-billion dollar deals.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Takeover:
On March 24, 2026, United Spirits Limited (Diageo) officially announced the sale of RCB to a powerhouse consortium. A consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group, including The Times of India Group, Bolt Ventures (David Blitzer), and private equity firm Blackstone.
Approximately $1.78 billion (₹16,706 crore), making it the most expensive franchise sale in cricket history. Aryaman Vikram Birla has been named the new Chairman of RCB. This is a “full-circle” moment, as he is a former professional cricketer who was once part of the Rajasthan Royals squad.
The deal includes 100% ownership of both the RCB Men’s (IPL) and RCB Women’s (WPL) teams, both of which are the reigning champions of their respective leagues.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) Sale:
Just hours before the RCB news, Rajasthan Royals also confirmed a massive change in ownership. A US-based consortium led by tech entrepreneur Kal Somani (founder of IntraEdge and Truyo.AI). Sale Price is $1.63 billion (approx. ₹15,286 crore).
The consortium includes Rob Walton (Walmart heir and Denver Broncos owner) and the Hamp family (owners of the NFL’s Detroit Lions and linked to the Ford Motor Company).
While the deal is signed, the transition of ownership for the Royals is expected to take full effect after the conclusion of the IPL 2026 season. The 2026 IPL season kicks off this Saturday, March 28, with RCB beginning their title defense.
