Teen dies of electric shock in raichur, friends dump body in lake out of fear

Raichur : A shocking incident has come to light in Raichur district where a 15-year-old boy died after accidentally coming in contact with electricity, following which his friends allegedly dumped the body in a nearby lake fearing they would be blamed for his death.
The deceased has been identified as Karthik, a resident of Gundasagar village in Lingsugur taluk. According to police sources, Karthik had gone to Lingsugur town on March 9 along with his friends to purchase new clothes for a farewell function scheduled at their school the next day.
After purchasing clothes, the group started their return journey to Gundasagar on a motorcycle. On the way, when they were about four to five kilometres away from the village, Karthik reportedly felt thirsty and got down near a roadside agricultural field to drink water.
Police said the boy accidentally came into contact with an electric line connected to a borewell motor in the field. He received a severe electric shock and collapsed on the spot. His friends immediately rushed to help him and placed him on their bike, intending to take him to the government hospital in Lingsugur.
However, during the journey, Karthik succumbed to the injuries. Panic gripped the teenagers as they feared they might face accusations of murder or police action. In a desperate attempt to hide the incident, they allegedly carried the body to the APMC area in Lingsugur.
According to the investigation, the boys placed the body inside a gunny sack near the APMC yard, tied it tightly, and inserted a few stones into the sack. They then threw the sack containing the body into the Karadakal lake near the market yard.
Shockingly, after disposing of the body, the teenagers returned to their village and even attended a wedding function where they participated in celebrations without revealing the incident to anyone.
Meanwhile, when Karthik did not return home till late night, his worried parents began searching for him. Suspicion grew when relatives questioned the friends who had accompanied him. Eventually, one of them confessed that the body had been dumped in the lake.
Following the information, police rushed to the Karadakal lake and launched a search operation with the help of fire and emergency personnel. The body was recovered from the lake inside the gunny sack.
A case has been registered at the Lingsugur police station based on a complaint from Karthikβs parents, alleging murder. Police have taken two minors into custody and further investigation is underway.
