Female Journalist Alleges Harassment While Reporting Outside Narendra Modi Stadium After T20 World Cup Final

Ahmedabad: An alleged incident of harassment involving a female journalist has sparked outrage on social media following the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand.

The incident reportedly took place outside the Narendra Modi Stadium while a sports reporter was covering post-match celebrations after India’s victory.

According to reports, sports journalist Gargi Raut alleged that an unidentified man in the crowd inappropriately touched her while she was reporting live from the stadium premises.

The journalist later shared a short video clip of the incident on social media, bringing attention to the alleged misconduct and raising concerns about the safety of women journalists working in crowded public spaces.

In the video shared on X, Gargi Raut can be seen reporting amid a crowd gathered outside the stadium after the match. During the report, a man walking behind her appears to touch her inappropriately as he passes. The journalist immediately reacts and looks angrily at the individual, while continuing her report.

Posting the six-second clip online, Raut wrote that if anyone touches her inappropriately, she will expose their face on the internet. She emphasized that journalists, especially women reporters, should be able to do their jobs without facing harassment or inappropriate behavior from people in public spaces.

In her post, she also tagged the Ahmedabad Police and called for action regarding the incident. The video quickly went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and support for the journalist. Many users demanded strict action against the person seen in the video and urged authorities to identify the suspect.

Several users also shared screenshots from the clip in an attempt to help identify the man involved. However, some social media users suggested that the incident might have been accidental, claiming that the man could have been trying to take his phone out of his pocket while walking through the crowd.

Responding to such comments, Gargi Raut clarified that there was enough space around her and that no one else had touched her during the report. She stated that she clearly saw the man walking toward her and insisted that the contact was not accidental.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about the safety and dignity of women journalists, particularly while working in large crowds during major sporting events. Many media professionals and social media users have stressed the need for stronger security measures to ensure that reporters can perform their duties without fear of harassment.
