Bengaluru karaga festival dates announced, preparations begin at Dharmarayaswamy temple

Bengaluru : The dates for the world-famous Bengaluru Karaga have been officially announced, with the grand religious festival scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 1 this year. The festival, known for its deep cultural and spiritual significance, will once again draw thousands of devotees and visitors.

According to the administrative committee of Dharmarayaswamy Temple and the Muzrai Department, priest A. Gnanendra has been selected to carry the sacred Karaga. This marks his 16th time performing the prestigious and spiritually demanding role, reflecting his long-standing association with the historic tradition.

The festival will formally begin with the flag-hoisting ceremony on March 24, marking the start of a series of religious rituals and cultural events. One of the key rituals, the ‘Hasikaraga,’ will be held on March 30, drawing large crowds of devotees.

The highlight of the celebrations, the grand Karaga Shaktyotsava procession, will take place at midnight on April 1. During this ritual, the priest carries the sacred Karaga pot in a solemn procession through the city, accompanied by Veerakumaras, devotees, and traditional music, symbolising devotion to Draupadi and communal harmony.

Overall, the festival spans 11 days, featuring multiple religious ceremonies, processions, and community participation. The Bengaluru Karaga continues to be one of Karnataka’s most iconic cultural and spiritual events, reflecting centuries-old traditions and the city’s rich heritage.
