FIR Filed Against PSI After Accused Alleges Abuse and Threat

Bengaluru : A Sub-Inspector attached to Magadi Road police station has been booked following a complaint filed by an accused in a cheating case, who alleged that the officer abused and threatened him during questioning.

The FIR was registered after the complainant obtained permission from a court. The complainant, identified as Avinash, approached the court with a private complaint seeking action against PSI Kaushik, who was the investigating officer in a cheating case registered last year.

Acting on the court’s direction, the Magadi Road Police Station registered an FIR against the officer. Senior police officials said the investigation h

as now been transferred to the Govindarajanagar Police Station to ensure impartiality.

Avinash, a resident of Agrahara Dasarahalli, along with his parents, had been named in a cheating case in January last year. His mother was allegedly running a chit fund business and was accused of cheating investors of lakhs of rupees.

Following the registration of the case, PSI Kaushik had taken charge of the investigation and had reportedly detained the accused persons for questioning. Fearing arrest, Avinash secured anticipatory bail from a court and later appeared before the investigating officer as directed.

Speaking to the media, Avinash alleged that during his appearance for inquiry, the PSI abused him using obscene language, assaulted him, and threatened to open a rowdy sheet against him.

“When I appeared before the PSI after obtaining anticipatory bail, I was verbally abused and threatened. I was told that a rowdy sheet would be opened against me,” he claimed.

Based on these allegations, Avinash moved the court, which permitted registration of a case against the officer. Senior police officials stated that the cheating case against Avinash and his family is an old matter and that he had been asked to cooperate with the investigation and provide relevant documents.

“It is not clear why the issue has surfaced now. However, as per the court’s direction, a case has been registered against the PSI and further investigation has been handed over to Govindarajanagar police,” an officer said.

Police added that the matter will be probed thoroughly and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
