Man murders wife, tries to pass it off as accident; arrested within hours in Bengaluru
Bengaluru : In a shocking incident, a 64-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife in a premeditated manner and attempted to portray the crime as an accident to escape the law. The incident took place on Monday evening within the jurisdiction of the Bagaluru Police Station in north Bengaluru Karnataka.
Police acted swiftly and arrested the accused within a few hours of the crime. The accused has been identified as Ananth (64), a resident of Bommasandra near Yelahanka, while the victim is his wife Gayathri (50).
According to police sources, Ananth took his wife to Mittaganahalli on the pretext of showing her a vacant site. Once at the location, he allegedly attacked her by striking her on the head with a stone, leading to fatal injuries.
After assaulting her, Ananth reportedly attempted to stage the murder as a road accident. He called for an ambulance and shifted Gayathri to a nearby hospital, claiming that she had suffered accidental injuries.
However, his plan began to unravel when the Chikkajala Traffic Sub-Inspector, who visited the hospital as part of routine procedure, noticed inconsistencies in the nature of the injuries.
Upon closer examination, the officer suspected foul play, observing that the wounds did not match those typically sustained in an accident. The matter was immediately brought to the attention of Bagaluru police. A detailed inquiry and preliminary investigation confirmed that Gayathri’s death was a result of a deliberate assault and not an accident.
Following this, Bagaluru police registered a murder case and took Ananth into custody for questioning. During interrogation, investigators are probing the motive behind the crime, including possible domestic disputes or property-related issues. Police officials said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
The incident has once again highlighted the issue of domestic violence and crimes within families, prompting calls for greater vigilance and timely intervention.
