Bengaluru May Allow Pubs and Restaurants to Stay Open Until Early Morning for Football Fans
Authorities are expected to consider extended operating hours for pubs bars and restaurants allowing football fans across Bengaluru to enjoy weekend matches together in a safe and festive atmosphere.

Bengaluru could witness an energetic weekend as pubs, bars and restaurants prepare for large gatherings of football fans eager to watch the upcoming international matches. Business owners have requested permission to keep their establishments open until 5 am on Sunday so supporters can enjoy the late night fixtures without interruption.
The request comes ahead of the football tournament’s third place playoff between France and England, followed by the championship final. Since both matches are scheduled during the early morning hours in India, hospitality businesses believe extended operating hours will allow fans to watch the games together in a comfortable setting.
According to industry representatives, the Excise Department has already granted the necessary approval, while the final clearance from the Bengaluru City Police is still awaited. If permission is granted, pubs, bars and restaurants across the city will be allowed to continue operations until early Sunday morning.
The proposal follows the positive response received during the recent semifinal matches. On July 14 and 15, authorities permitted restaurants and food establishments to remain open beyond their usual closing hours, enabling football enthusiasts to gather and watch the matches live. Many venues reported enthusiastic participation, encouraging business owners to seek similar arrangements for the final weekend of the tournament.
Hospitality establishments have also begun preparing for the possibility of extended business hours by introducing additional safety and operational measures. Many venues have planned staggered work shifts for employees, arranged secure transportation for women staff members, increased the number of security personnel and strengthened CCTV surveillance to ensure smooth operations throughout the night.
Business operators have also indicated that match screenings will be limited to indoor areas, while strict measures will be taken to prevent any betting or illegal gambling activities. These precautions are intended to ensure that fans can enjoy the sporting event responsibly while maintaining public order.
Football has gained a growing following in Bengaluru over the past few years, with international tournaments attracting large crowds to sports bars and restaurants. During the semifinal matches, hundreds of supporters gathered at venues across the city to cheer for their favorite teams, creating a lively atmosphere that many businesses hope to recreate during the final matches.
Restaurant owners believe that extending operating hours would not only benefit football fans but also support the city’s hospitality sector, which often experiences increased customer footfall during major international sporting events. They say the initiative would allow visitors to enjoy the matches without rushing home before the final whistle.
Residents are now waiting for the police department’s final decision, which will determine whether the extended timings can be implemented. If approval is granted, Bengaluru is expected to experience one of its busiest sports weekends, with nightlife and football celebrations continuing until dawn.
With preparations already underway and enthusiasm building among supporters, the city could soon combine its vibrant nightlife with the excitement of world football. The proposed extension is expected to provide fans with a memorable viewing experience while allowing businesses to cater to one of the biggest sporting weekends of the year.
