Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate Vivekananda Memorial During Mysuru Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mysuru on August 1 for the inauguration of the newly developed Swami Vivekananda Memorial and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre. Built at a cost of Rs 45 crore, the project has transformed a historically significant site into a modern centre dedicated to youth activities, cultural programmes and the legacy of Swami Vivekananda.

The memorial is located on Narayana Shastri Road in Devaraja Mohalla, where Swami Vivekananda is believed to have stayed during his visit to Mysuru. The restored complex has been designed to preserve its historical importance while promoting educational and cultural initiatives for future generations.

Following the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister will visit the Ramakrishna Ashrama, where he will offer floral tributes to the statue of Swami Vivekananda. A special programme has been arranged at the Ashrama auditorium, where Modi is expected to spend around 30 minutes interacting with the gathering and participating in the event.

Organisers expect nearly 6000 people to attend the programme, including college students, devotees and members of the public. Entry will be restricted through special invitation passes to ensure smooth management of the event and security arrangements.

A special highlight of the programme will be the presentation of a handcrafted statue of Swami Vivekananda created by renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj. Along with the sculpture, the Prime Minister will also receive a commemorative gift showcasing Mysuru’s rich cultural heritage. According to Ramakrishna Ashrama representatives, the gifts have been prepared to reflect the city’s artistic traditions and historical identity.

Several prominent dignitaries are expected to share the stage with the Prime Minister, including Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MLA Harish Gowda and Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra. However, organisers have indicated that only a limited number of guests will be accommodated on the main stage.

Security and logistical preparations are already underway in Mysuru ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival. Authorities are coordinating with local officials to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme and proper arrangements for visitors expected to attend the event.

This will be Modi’s second visit to Karnataka in recent months. Earlier, he attended the Art of Living Foundation’s anniversary celebrations in Bengaluru, where he also inaugurated a new meditation hall. His upcoming Mysuru visit is expected to further highlight the importance of preserving India’s spiritual heritage while encouraging youth engagement through cultural and educational initiatives.
