Loud mysterious sound triggers panic in Chikkamallanahole village of Davanagere

Davanagere: Panic gripped Chikkamallanahole village in Jagalur taluk of Davanagere district on Saturday night after residents heard a loud mysterious sound accompanied by vibrations that felt like the ground shaking.

The village, located near the border of Vijayanagara and Davanagere districts, witnessed scenes of confusion as frightened residents rushed out of their houses and nearby buildings, fearing an explosion or natural calamity. The incident occurred at around 8 pm, when an unusually loud sound was heard across the area.

Villagers reported that due to the intensity of the vibrations, utensils fell from shelves in a few houses, adding to the panic. However, the exact cause of the sound remains unclear so far, and no damage to life or property has been officially reported.

Following the incident, personnel from the Jagalur police station and local officials rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. Authorities attempted to reassure the public and rule out any immediate threat.

Responding to the incident, Jagalur Tahsildar Syed Kaleemulla said there was no explosion within the limits of Jagalur taluk. However, he stated that there was information suggesting that a sound resembling an explosion may have been experienced from the Kallalli side of Kudligi taluk in neighbouring Vijayanagara district.

“There has been no blast or explosion in our taluk. Villagers should not panic,” the tahsildar said, urging residents to remain calm. He added that village accountants had visited the area and gathered information as part of the official assessment.

Officials said further verification is underway to ascertain the origin of the sound. Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to the public not to spread rumours and assured that any credible information will be shared once the inquiry is complete.

The unexplained nature of the incident has sparked curiosity and concern among residents, with many demanding clarity on what caused the loud noise and tremors. Authorities have maintained that there is no cause for alarm at present.
