Kolar: Malur police have arrested two inter-state thieves involved in a high-value home burglary, recovering gold and silver jewelry worth approximately Rs 40 lakh. The accused, Hussadar Sheikh (24) from West Bengal and Umashankar (27) from Tamil Nadu, were apprehended following a detailed police investigation.
According to police, the theft occurred on November 4 at The Empirian Apartments in Chikkathirupathi village of Malur taluk. The lone resident, Preeth Kamal, was at home, while other family members were absent.
Observing the opportunity, the suspects broke into the house and stole 272 grams of gold, diamond-studded jewelry, and 640 grams of silver items. Hussadar Sheikh initially fled the scene but was later traced, while Umashankar, a Tamil Nadu native, was also taken into custody.
Malur police revealed that both suspects were professional thieves involved in home burglaries and chain snatching across multiple districts. On November 11, police spotted Umashankar acting suspiciously near White Garden, Malur. When approached, he attempted to flee but was captured. Upon interrogation, he confessed to the theft. Police also recovered gold jewelry worth ₹21 lakh, totaling 170 grams, along with two motorcycles used in their operations.
Kolar SP Nikhil confirmed that both accused have been remanded to judicial custody. The recovered valuables have been handed over to the rightful owner by the police.
SP Nikhil said, “The swift action of the Malur police ensured that the stolen property was recovered and the accused were brought to justice. We urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
This case highlights the growing concern of inter-state organized theft and the efficiency of local police in tracking and apprehending professional criminals operating across state lines.
