CM Siddaramaiah orders strict action over VIP treatment to convicts at Parappana Agrahara jail

Davangere: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reacted sharply to reports of convicts being given VIP-style treatment at Parappana agrahara Jail, stating that strict action has been ordered against those responsible and that such incidents will not be allowed in the future.

The comments came during a wedding event of former minister P.T. Parameshwara Naik’s son in Harappanahalli, Vijayanagar district, where Siddaramaiah addressed the viral photos and videos showing ISIS terrorist Juhaad Hameed Shakeel Manna, convicted criminal Umesh Reddy, and actress Ranya Rao’s partner Tarun Raj enjoying special privileges in the jail.

The clips reportedly showed them using mobile phones, watching LED TVs, and enjoying a comfortable lifestyle inside the facility.

The Chief Minister said, “The officials responsible for this misconduct are on leave, and the Home Minister will convene a meeting tomorrow. We will ensure such incidents do not recur. Appropriate action will be taken against those who allowed this to happen.”

In the same statement, Siddaramaiah addressed other ongoing issues:

Election-related warning: Speaking on district and taluk panchayat elections, he cautioned that any opposition to the process or obstruction could invite strict action against individuals and their factories, referencing ongoing court oversight.

Corn crop compensation: On the issue of maize (corn) support prices, he noted that the central government sets the minimum support price and promised relief for losses affecting 11 lakh hectares of maize cultivation.

The CM’s remarks underline the government’s zero-tolerance policy on jail misconduct and its commitment to farmer welfare and lawful conduct in local elections.
