Four killed as tanker collides with bike and car near Kalaburagi
Kalaburagi : In a tragic road accident near Awarad village in Kalaburagi taluk, four people were killed on the spot after a speeding tanker rammed into a bike and a car on the Bidar–Srirangapatna National Highway on Thursday evening.
According to police, the deceased include two bike riders identified as Nagendra Amruthappa and Shivananda Apparao, both residents of Siradoni village. The duo, along with another companion, was reportedly returning home after completing their daily wage work when the accident occurred. The identities of the two deceased car occupants are yet to be confirmed.
Preliminary reports suggest that the tanker driver lost control and hit both the bike and the car coming from the opposite direction, leading to the fatal crash. The impact was so severe that all four victims died instantly. The vehicles were completely mangled, and rescuers had to use equipment to retrieve the bodies trapped inside the wreckage.
Following the accident, traffic on the Bidar–Srirangapatna National Highway came to a standstill for several hours, with long queues of vehicles reported on both sides. Local police from the Kalaburagi Traffic Station rushed to the spot, cleared the highway, and initiated an investigation.
The bodies have been shifted to GIMS Hospital, Kalaburagi, for postmortem examination. Police are tracing the tanker driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the crash.
Residents of the area have expressed outrage over frequent accidents on this stretch of the highway, demanding stricter enforcement of speed limits and the installation of warning signs.
