Cyclone Montha Alert: extremely heavy rainfall alert for next 2 days
Cyclone Montha Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings regarding a severe cyclonic storm, Cyclone Montha, which is expected to bring very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and high winds to several states over the next 2 days.
The system is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and is forecast to make landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, during the evening/night of October 28.
Maximum sustained wind speed is predicted to be 90-100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph at the time of landfall. States on High Alert for Very Heavy/Extremely Heavy Rain. The IMD has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over several states, including:
Andhra Pradesh (Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema):
Odisha
Telangana
Chhattisgarh
Tamil Nadu (and Puducherry)
Kerala (and Mahe)
Coastal Karnataka
The period of most intense weather for many of these states, particularly for heavy to very heavy rainfall, is forecast to be around October 27 and 28. Authorities in the coastal states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are on high alert, with preparations for evacuation and disaster response underway.
