The DNA test has confirmed that Krishna J. Rao is the father of the child, which is a crucial piece of evidence in the case. He was arrested on July 5, 2025, and booked for offences including sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means (Section 69) and repeatedly raping the same woman (Section 64(2)(m)) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (the new Indian Penal Code).
His father was also arrested for allegedly helping him evade arrest. The Karnataka High Court granted bail to krishna J. Rao on September 3, 2025. The judge observed at the time that the physical relationship between the two adults “appeared to be consensual,” which would need to be examined during a full trial.
The police investigation has been completed, and the final report has been filed. The case will now proceed to a full-fledged trial in the court. The DNA evidence will be a key factor in the prosecution’s case.
krishna J. Rao, an engineering student and son of P.G. Jagannivas Rao (a member of the Puttur City Municipal Council and BJP leader), and the complainant, a former classmate. The complaint states that the two were in a relationship since their school days, which continued after the woman began her college education in Mangaluru.
Krishna J. Rao allegedly established a physical relationship with the woman on multiple occasions, starting in late 2024, by promising to marry her. The woman became pregnant. When she informed his family, they initially agreed to the marriage but later allegedly refused, leading the woman’s family to approach the police. The victim gave birth to a child on June 28, 2025.
