Team India former captain Sourav Ganguly next BCCI President

Team India: Team India former captain Sourav Ganguly is a strong contender to become the next BCCI President, but his appointment has not been officially confirmed. The election for the post is scheduled for September 28, 2025.

The position of BCCI President became vacant after Roger Binny stepped down earlier this month upon turning 70, which is the age cap for a board official. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has nominated Sourav Ganguly as their representative for the upcoming BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM), where the new president will be elected.

This is a crucial first step for him to be in the running for the top post. While Ganguly’s name is prominent, other former cricketers and administrators are also being considered. These include former wicketkeeper Kiran More and former spinner Harbhajan Singh, who will be representing the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at the AGM.

According to some reports, including a statement from IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, the new president is expected to be chosen unanimously rather than through a formal election. This has been the precedent in recent years. Sourav Ganguly has previously served as the BCCI President from 2019 to 2022. He also served as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) before taking on the BCCI role.

The BCCI’s AGM and elections are scheduled for September 28 in Mumbai. The window for filing nominations is from September 20-21.
