Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has once again weighed in on the issue of India-Pakistan cricket matches, stating that they should only take place if the relationship between the two nations improves and the government gives its approval.

Harbhajan has a firm stance that until the political and diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan get better, there should be no cricketing or business ties. He has previously cited the “nation first” principle and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
While he holds a strong personal opinion, Harbhajan has clarified that he respects the government’s position. He stated that if the government permits a match to happen, it should go ahead, but he reiterated that he feels relations should be better.
Harbhajan referenced the recent World Championship of Legends, where his “Indian Legends” team twice conceded their match against Pakistan to make a statement about the prevailing tensions.
Harbhajan’s comments come at a time of heightened tensions following a terror attack in Pahalgam and “Operation Sindoor,” which was a military response by India. The upcoming India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup is the first cricketing encounter between the two countries since these events.
It’s important to note that the Government of India’s official policy, as per the Sports Ministry, is to prohibit bilateral sporting ties with Pakistan but to allow participation in international or multilateral events where both teams are present.
