Bridge collapse in Gujarat: 9 people death, many missing
Bridge collapse in Gujarat: This is indeed a tragic and very recent incident. A bridge collapse has occurred in Vadodara district, Gujarat, on the morning of Wednesday, July 9, 2025. The Gambhira bridge over the Mahisagar River, connecting Vadodara and Anand districts. It’s located about 25 km from Vadodara city.
Incident happened approximately 7:30 AM IST on Wednesday. Reports indicate that at least 9 people are feared dead, and several others are injured or missing. The death toll is expected to rise. Multiple vehicles, including two trucks, a van, and a car/Bolero SUV, plunged into the Mahisagar River after a portion of the four-decade-old bridge collapsed.

Immediate rescue operations were launched by fire brigade teams, local police, and the district administration. Local villagers are also assisting. An NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) unit has also been dispatched to the site.
The exact cause of the collapse is under investigation. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has instructed technical experts to visit the site and probe the structural failure. The bridge was reportedly constructed in 1985 and underwent periodic maintenance.

The collapse has severed a vital road link between central Gujarat and the Saurashtra region, causing significant disruption to traffic. This incident is a grim reminder of the Morbi suspension bridge collapse in October 2022, which claimed 135 lives. Concerns are being raised about the structural integrity and maintenance of aging infrastructure in the state, particularly after recent monsoonal rains.
