UPI transactions new rules: PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm users good news

UPI transactions new rules: From now on, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) users across India expect their transactions to be completed faster than before. The UPI operating agency has introduced new guidelines for the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), which reduces the time it takes to process UPI transactions. So far, it takes 30 seconds to complete the UPI transactions, sending and receiving money. But with the new rule, that time has been cut in half. From now on, it takes only 15 seconds to pass the UPI payment. The same applies to applications such as Phonepe, Google Pay, PayTM and other UPI platforms.

The time taken to check the status of the transaction or reverse the failed transaction has also been reduced. Earlier, if your payment did not pass, you had to wait 30 seconds or more to check if the money was cut or returned. Now, this process takes only 10 seconds, helping users know if the transaction failed or successful.

Let’s take an example of the real-world. Using your bank app you go to the store and scan the Merchant’s QR code. The application sends a payment request to the merchant bank through the UPI system of NPCI. Once the payment is processed, the response to the success or failure of the transaction will return to your app.

This entire exchange, which took half a minute before, is now completed in just 15 seconds. NPCI has updated how and when banks and payment apps can check out pending or stuck transactions. Earlier, applications had to wait 90 seconds before trying to check if the transaction was successful.

Now, after the start of the transaction, they can be checked 45 to 60 seconds ago, which means that in the event of any technical problems. This change will not only accelerate UPI payments, and reduce confusion when transactions fail or stall. Many users worry when they don’t get a quick vision or a money is cut without a message of success.

Low waiting time and faster response gives greater clarity and confidence in such situations. Also, if a transaction does not even reach the UPI system – for example, because the network failure or technical time – the system now recognizes that it has failed automatically.

This saves time because applications no longer waste the attempt to try to check the status of an unscathed payment in the first place. To avoid the system overload, the NPCI has allowed the transaction to check the status of the transaction three times, within two hours of the transaction attempt.
