IPL 2027: Abhishek Sharma Captain, Yuvraj Singh Coach For Delhi Capital

IPL 2027: Abhishek Sharma could leave Sunrisers Hyderabad after reportedly being overlooked for captaincy. Delhi Capitals are leading the race to sign the star opener.

IPL 2027: With the Indian premier League (IPL) 2027 mini-auction set to take place in December, all 10 franchises are expected to finalize and announce their lists of retained and released players. Abhishek Sharma Captain For Delhi Capital for IPL 2027.

Amid the build-up to the auction, a significant development has emerged from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp. Explosive opening batter Abhishek Sharma is reportedly considering parting ways with the franchise after allegedly being overlooked for the captaincy, despite serving as one of SRH’s key players over the past several seasons.

According to a report Abhishek Sharma has long aspired to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, during the previous season, when regular skipper Pat Cummins was unavailable, the franchise appointed Ishan Kishan as captain instead. The decision is believed to have left Abhishek disappointed.

There is also uncertainty over Cummins’ availability for IPL 2027, as he is expected to prioritize Australia’s international commitments, including the upcoming Ashes series and the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. His packed schedule could keep him out of the tournament.

Franchise Reportedly Prefers Ishan Kishan:

With doubts surrounding Cummins’ participation, the SRH management has reportedly decided to hand the captaincy to Ishan Kishan once again if required. However, Abhishek, who has been with the franchise since 2019, is said to be unhappy about being overlooked for the leadership role. Reports suggest he has already begun discussions with multiple franchises regarding a possible move ahead of the next season.

Several Franchises Interested in Signing Abhishek:

Sharma could lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2027 if he completes a move from Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is also said to have held discussions with Delhi Capitals, where his mentor and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is currently part of the coaching and support staff. This connection could make Delhi a strong contender for his signature.

Apart from Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings are also reportedly interested in acquiring the left-handed opener.

However, Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO K. Shanmugam has firmly denied the speculation surrounding Abhishek’s departure. While the franchise has dismissed the reports, the situation is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks.
