PSI Job Promise Leads to Rs 60 Lakh Fraud Case in Yadgir

A case involving an alleged promise of securing a Police Sub Inspector post has been registered in Yadgir district after a man complained that he was cheated of Rs 60 lakh.

The complaint was filed by Devendra from Tallalli village in Surpur taluk. Based on his complaint, Kembhavi police registered a case against eight people in connection with the alleged fraud. The complainant told police that he had been assured that his brother’s wife could get a PSI position if a large amount of money was paid.

According to the complaint, the issue began after Devendra came into contact with a man identified as Girish. He allegedly claimed that he could arrange the PSI post and initially demanded Rs 1 crore. Girish also reportedly shared the phone numbers of several other people, including Deepak, Shashank Gowda, Utteja, Shreyas Gowda and Anand.

Devendra said he believed the promise and arranged the money despite the large amount involved. The complaint states that he raised funds through a home loan, the sale of agricultural land and loans taken from relatives.

The alleged payments were made in stages rather than in a single transaction. On April 7, 2026, Devendra reportedly handed over Rs 20 lakh in cash to Girish and Deepak at a room in Arasikunte.

A further Rs 40 lakh was allegedly transferred to bank accounts linked to Lakshmi Venkateshwara Enterprises, Utteja and M C Ranganath. According to the complaint, these transactions took the total amount paid to Rs 60 lakh.

The matter came to light after Devendra reportedly began asking for his money back when the promised recruitment did not take place. The complaint alleges that the people involved did not return the money or provide the promised job.

With neither the appointment nor the money being received, Devendra approached the police and submitted a complaint at Kembhavi police station.

Police have named Girish, Deepak, Shashank Gowda, Utteja, Shreyas Gowda, Anand, M C Ranganath and Satya alias Satish as accused in the case. An FIR has been registered under Sections 316(2), 318(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The allegations are now being examined as part of the police investigation. Registration of an FIR does not by itself establish the guilt of the people named in the complaint.

The case also highlights the risks involved when people are promised government jobs in exchange for large payments. Recruitment to government posts follows an official selection process, and claims that a post can be secured through personal influence or payment should be treated with caution.

In this case, the alleged financial loss was substantial, with the complainant stating that he had taken loans and sold property to arrange the money. The police investigation is expected to examine the financial transactions, communications between the people involved and the circumstances surrounding the alleged promise.

The case has been registered in Kembhavi and further investigation is underway.
