Apple AirPods 5 Launches With ANC and Live Translation

Apple has expanded its popular wireless earbud lineup with the launch of AirPods 5, bringing a mix of audio improvements, noise control and new AI focused features. The company has also introduced a second version with a wireless charging case and additional controls.

One of the biggest talking points around the new AirPods 5 is its Active Noise Cancellation capability. Apple says the earbuds can reduce surrounding noise by up to 50 percent more than the previous AirPods 4 with ANC. The improvement is notable because the earbuds continue to use an open ear design rather than the sealed design commonly found on many noise cancelling models.

The new Transparency mode is also designed to make conversations and surrounding sounds feel more natural. Instead of completely blocking the outside environment, the feature allows users to remain aware of nearby voices and sounds while listening to content.

AirPods 5 also includes Adaptive Audio, which can automatically adjust the balance between noise cancellation and Transparency mode depending on the surroundings. Another useful feature is Conversation Awareness. When the wearer starts speaking, the earbuds can lower the media volume, making it easier to have a quick conversation without manually pausing the audio.

Apple has made changes to the audio system as well. The new earbuds use a redesigned multiport acoustic architecture along with next generation Adaptive EQ. The system is intended to adjust the sound experience according to how the earbuds fit in different ears.

Personalized Spatial Audio is another part of the package. The feature is designed to create a more immersive listening experience for supported music and other content. This could make the AirPods 5 more appealing to users who want more than basic wireless audio performance.

AI features are another major focus of the launch. When paired with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, AirPods 5 can be used with Siri through hands free controls. This allows users to interact with Siri without needing to pick up their phone for every request.

Live Translation is also included. The feature is aimed at making conversations between people speaking different languages easier to follow. Users can start the translation experience through Siri or activate it by pressing both earbud stems together.

Apple has introduced a wireless charging version of AirPods 5 for users looking for additional convenience. This model comes with a wireless charging case and introduces a volume control option directly through the earbud stem.

Users can swipe on the stem to raise or lower the volume. Apple says the combination of a force sensor and stem based volume control is a new addition for its open ear form factor, giving users a simpler way to adjust audio without reaching for a connected device.

Battery performance has also received an upgrade on the wireless charging model. With ANC enabled, the earbuds can provide up to five hours of playback on a single charge. Apple says this is one hour longer than the previous AirPods 4 with ANC.

When the charging case is included, total listening time with ANC can reach up to 22 hours. The case can be charged using an Apple Watch charger, a compatible Qi wireless charger or a USB C connection, giving users several charging options.

The launch also gives customers a choice between the standard AirPods 5 and the version that includes wireless charging and additional features. This approach allows buyers to choose based on the controls and charging options they actually need.

Apple has priced the standard AirPods 5 at 129 dollars, while the wireless charging version costs 149 dollars. Preorders have started, with sales scheduled to begin on September 18. The company has announced availability across more than 65 countries and markets, including the United States.

With stronger noise cancellation, improved sound processing, Siri support and Live Translation, AirPods 5 represents a broader update than a simple audio upgrade. The addition of a wireless charging version also gives users another option depending on how they prefer to charge and control their earbuds.

The new features show Apple’s growing focus on combining everyday audio products with software and artificial intelligence capabilities. For existing AirPods users, the improved ANC and battery life may be among the most noticeable changes, while Live Translation and Siri integration add new possibilities beyond music and calls.
