Karnataka Government May Recommend CBI Probe Against HD Kumaraswamy

The Karnataka government is reportedly considering another political and legal move against Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, with a possible recommendation for a CBI investigation being discussed in connection with the Sai Minerals case.

According to reports citing sources familiar with the matter, the issue could come up during a state Cabinet discussion. The reported proposal comes at a time when Kumaraswamy has continued to strongly criticise the Congress government in Karnataka on several issues.

The possible recommendation is also being viewed in the context of a separate development involving former minister B Nagendra. The Governor has sought the state government’s opinion regarding prosecution sanction for a CBI investigation connected with the alleged Valmiki Corporation scam involving Nagendra.

The government is reportedly examining several files at the same time. Along with the matter concerning Nagendra, files linked to Kumaraswamy, former minister Janardhana Reddy and former MLA Renukacharya are also expected to receive attention.

The developments have triggered speculation over whether the Congress government intends to use the prosecution route against senior opposition leaders. However, the reported plan has not been presented as a final decision, and any formal investigation or prosecution would require the relevant legal and constitutional procedures to be followed.

Kumaraswamy’s name has been linked to the Sai Minerals case, which concerns allegations surrounding mining activities. The former Karnataka Chief Minister has previously faced political scrutiny over matters connected with the case. Any fresh action would depend on the government’s recommendation and the subsequent decision of the competent authorities.

In Nagendra’s case, the issue relates to the alleged irregularities involving the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. The controversy had previously led to significant political pressure on the Congress government and Nagendra’s resignation as minister.

The other files reportedly under consideration involve different allegations. Janardhana Reddy’s case concerns alleged illegal mining activities, while the matter associated with Renukacharya relates to allegations of disproportionate or illegally acquired assets.

The reported list therefore covers four separate cases involving leaders from different political backgrounds and circumstances. The government is expected to examine each matter independently rather than treating them as a single case.

The possibility of recommending a CBI investigation against Kumaraswamy is particularly significant because he is currently a Union Minister and one of the prominent leaders of the opposition camp in Karnataka. He has frequently attacked the Congress government over corruption allegations and administrative issues.
