The death toll has now surged to nearly 1,000, while more than 4,450 people remain missing, raising fears that the number of fatalities could rise dramatically in the coming days. The scale of destruction is heartbreaking. Entire villages have been washed away, roads and bridges have collapsed, and thousands of families have been displaced.

Rescue teams are recovering bodies from flood-ravaged areas every day, with many victims’ remains severely decomposed after being trapped under debris and floodwaters, making identification an enormous challenge.

In one of the most tragic incidents, 24 bodies were recovered from a single house in Betravati, Nuwakot District. According to local authorities, members of one family, along with several people who had taken shelter in the house to escape the floods, were trapped as powerful floodwaters engulfed the building. All 24 people lost their lives, turning the house into a scene of unimaginable tragedy.

With road access completely cut off by landslides and flooding, authorities have been forced to use helicopters to recover the bodies and transport them to safer locations. Rescue operations in several remote areas remain extremely difficult, as damaged infrastructure and disrupted communication networks continue to hamper emergency efforts.

Despite these challenges, security forces, disaster response teams, and local volunteers are working tirelessly to save lives. So far, more than 10,000 people have been rescued and evacuated from the affected regions. However, thousands remain stranded, and search operations for the missing are continuing around the clock.

Officials have warned that the death toll is likely to rise further as rescue teams gain access to isolated mountain villages that are still cut off from the rest of the country. With widespread destruction, thousands displaced, and entire communities left in ruins, Nepal is facing one of the deadliest flood disasters in its history.
