Hospet Arasikere DEMU Special Train Service Begins
The new unreserved DEMU service connects Hospet and Arasikere five days weekly, improving daytime rail access for students, traders, patients and travelers across Karnataka.
Hospet Arasikere DEMU service has started operating, bringing a new daytime rail option for passengers travelling between Vijayanagara and central Karnataka. The unreserved special train will run from Monday to Friday, offering a practical alternative for people who regularly travel along this route.
The train leaves Hospet Junction at 6.30 am and travels through Kottur, Davanagere and Kadur before reaching Arasikere Junction at 2.20 pm. The return service starts from Arasikere at 2.30 pm and reaches Hospet at around 9.30 pm.
The new service is expected to be particularly useful for passengers who travel for education, business, healthcare and other routine needs. Students and traders from parts of Vijayanagara district who depend on Davanagere for various services could find the daytime connection more convenient.
Passengers travelling from the Arasikere side can also benefit from connections towards several important destinations. The route can make onward travel to places such as Mysuru, Hassan, Belur, Halebidu, Shravanabelagola, Dharmasthala, Kukke Subrahmanya, Udupi and Mangaluru more convenient through available rail connections.
The introduction of the DEMU service also comes after years of requests from local railway groups. The Vijayanagara Railway Users Association and the Hagaribommanahalli Kottur Railway Committee had repeatedly raised the demand for better passenger connectivity in the region.
The campaign was also supported by Maheshwara Swamiji of Nandipura Mutt, who played a role in efforts seeking improved railway services along the corridor. For regular passengers, the launch marks the outcome of a long standing demand for a more useful daytime train.
The Hospet Arasikere route covers roughly 360 kilometres through Kottur, Davanagere and Kadur. With the new unreserved DEMU service, passengers now have another option for travelling across the region without depending entirely on road transport.
Beyond everyday commuting, the service could support tourism and pilgrimage travel as well. Easier access towards destinations in central and southern Karnataka may benefit visitors planning trips for religious, educational and leisure purposes.
For local residents, however, the biggest advantage is expected to be the additional daytime connectivity. A train leaving Hospet early in the morning and returning from Arasikere in the afternoon gives passengers a straightforward option for travelling between important towns along the route.
