Redmi 17C 5G Spotted on Geekbench With Large Battery and MediaTek Chipset Ahead of Expected Launch

Redmi 17C 5G has appeared on Geekbench suggesting a MediaTek processor large battery upgraded software and camera improvements making it a strong contender in the affordable smartphone segment.

Redmi appears to be preparing the launch of its next budget 5G smartphone, the Redmi 17C 5G, as fresh benchmark listings have revealed several key specifications ahead of an official announcement. While the company has not confirmed the device, its appearance on Geekbench has fueled speculation that the launch could take place in the near future.

The benchmark database lists the handset under the codename Tornado, a name that has previously been associated with the Redmi 15C 5G and the Poco C85 5G. This has led to reports that the upcoming Redmi 17C 5G could share much of its hardware with those devices or arrive as a refreshed version with a few notable upgrades.

According to the Geekbench listing, the smartphone scored 729 points in the single core performance test and 1692 points in the multi core benchmark. The processor configuration includes two performance cores running at 2.40GHz along with six efficiency cores clocked at 2.00GHz. These specifications strongly indicate the presence of the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, which is designed to deliver balanced performance for everyday tasks and 5G connectivity.

The software is expected to receive an upgrade as well. Reports suggest the Redmi 17C 5G could run HyperOS based on Android 16, bringing newer features and system improvements compared to its predecessor. If accurate, the device would arrive with one of the latest Android based software experiences available in the budget category.

Display specifications also point toward a large screen experience. The Redmi 17C 5G is expected to feature a 6.9 inch HD LCD display, making it suitable for streaming videos, browsing social media and gaming. Although the exact refresh rate has not been confirmed, the screen size alone could appeal to users who prefer larger displays for entertainment and productivity.

Photography capabilities are expected to remain competitive for the price segment. Leaks indicate the phone may include a 50 megapixel primary rear camera, allowing users to capture detailed photos in various lighting conditions. On the front, an 8 megapixel camera is expected to handle selfies and video calls.

Battery life could be one of the biggest highlights of the Redmi 17C 5G. Reports suggest the smartphone will pack a massive 6000mAh battery paired with 33W fast charging support. Such a combination is expected to deliver extended usage throughout the day while reducing charging time, making the device attractive for users who spend long hours away from a charger.

The leaked specifications closely resemble those of the Redmi 15C 5G, which was introduced with a 6.9 inch HD Plus display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. That model also used the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor and offered expandable storage of up to 1TB through a microSD card. It shipped with HyperOS 2 based on Android 15 and included a 50 megapixel main camera, an 8 megapixel front camera and a side mounted fingerprint scanner for security.

Additional sensors available on the Redmi 15C 5G included an ambient light sensor, accelerometer and electronic compass, and many of these features are expected to return in the Redmi 17C 5G. The earlier model also delivered reliable battery performance with its 6000mAh battery and 33W wired charging support.

Although Redmi has yet to reveal the official launch date or pricing details, the Geekbench listing indicates that development is progressing toward release. If the leaked specifications prove accurate, the Redmi 17C 5G could strengthen the companys position in the affordable 5G smartphone segment by combining a large battery, modern software, dependable performance and a capable camera setup at a competitive price.
