Bengaluru: A shocking incident was reported from the Varthur police limits on Wednesday after an 18 year old youth allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend multiple times over her recent marriage and later attempted to end his own life. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the young woman remains in critical condition.
The victim has been identified as Nandini Das, a resident of Ramagondanahalli, while the accused is 18 year old Nawaz. According to police, the incident took place around 10 am on July 9 at the victim’s residence.
Investigators said Nawaz and Nandini had known each other for nearly three years after meeting while studying at a private school in Nallurhalli. During this period, they were reportedly in a relationship. Nawaz later discontinued his education and started working as a Tata Ace driver.
Police said Nandini recently married another man. After learning about her marriage, Nawaz allegedly went to her house when her parents had left for work. He is said to have locked her two brothers inside a room before confronting her about the marriage.
During the argument, the accused allegedly entered the kitchen and turned on the gas stove, creating panic inside the house. As the woman screamed for help, he allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting injuries on her neck, hand, thigh and ribs.
After the assault, Nawaz allegedly stabbed himself in the neck in an apparent suicide attempt. Both reportedly collapsed due to heavy bleeding before local residents alerted the police.
Police and emergency responders reached the spot and shifted both injured persons to a nearby hospital. Doctors said Nandini is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, while the accused is also receiving medical care.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Yadav Das, police have registered a case at the Varthur Police Station and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Authorities said the family, originally from West Bengal, has been living in Ramagondanahalli for the past several years.
