Belagavi Jail Authority Moves Court Over False Link To Viral Woman PSI Video
A private complaint has been filed after a viral video involving a woman PSI was allegedly linked to Hindalga Central Prison, prompting jail authorities to seek legal action.
A controversy surrounding a viral video involving a woman police sub inspector has now reached the court after authorities at Hindalga Central Prison in Belagavi objected to the prison being falsely associated with the footage.
The assistant superintendent of Hindalga Jail has filed a private complaint before the Second JMFC Court in Belagavi, seeking legal action against two individuals over the alleged social media posts.
According to the complaint, a video call involving a woman PSI from the KISF division was uploaded on an Instagram account identified as Sandhya777nagraj. The post allegedly claimed that the incident shown in the video had taken place inside Hindalga Central Prison.
Jail authorities have strongly denied any connection between the prison and the video. They said the woman PSI shown in the footage had no association with Hindalga Jail and alleged that the misleading claim unnecessarily damaged the reputation of the institution.
The social media post reportedly also used photographs of the state home minister and the ADGP of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services while making derogatory references to the jail administration.
The complaint names social activist Sandhya Nagaraj and Saikumar, a former inmate of Hindalga Jail from Tumakuru, as the alleged accused. Jail authorities have asked the court to initiate proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The complaint was submitted through public prosecutor Mahantesh before the Second JMFC Court. The jail administration has maintained that the viral footage and the prison are unrelated and that the alleged false association has caused reputational damage.
The matter will now be considered by the court, while further action will depend on the proceedings and evidence placed before the judicial authorities.
