West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee has issued a strong warning to rebel leaders within her party, accusing them of betraying the organization and acting in line with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Her remarks come as internal tensions continue to trouble the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Addressing party workers, Banerjee thanked those who have remained loyal to the party during the ongoing political unrest. She praised grassroots workers for standing by the Trinamool Congress despite the challenges and said their commitment remained the party’s biggest strength.
Launching a direct attack on the dissident leaders, Banerjee questioned how those who had contested elections on Trinamool Congress tickets could now claim that the party had become inactive. She said it was contradictory for leaders to criticize the same organization that had given them the opportunity to contest elections.
Banerjee reminded the gathering that she had personally approved the party nominations and election tickets for many of the leaders who are now speaking against the Trinamool Congress. She questioned how they could turn against the party within a short period after benefiting from its support.
In a strongly worded message, Banerjee said there should be limits to political disloyalty and urged the rebel leaders to remember that she was still actively leading the party. She also stated that if they wished to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, they were free to do so, but made it clear that she would never bow before the BJP.
Her comments are being seen as a clear attempt to reinforce party discipline and send a message to leaders considering switching political allegiance ahead of future electoral battles in West Bengal.
