
Mangaluru: The southwest monsoon has intensified across Karnataka, bringing widespread rainfall to several parts of the state over the past few days. Karnataka Heavy Rainfall Alert: declared School Holiday on July 2.
All educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada districts will be closed on Thursday (July 2) following a Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the forecast of heavy rainfall over the next three days.
The holiday applies to all educational institutions, including schools, High School and PU colleges, anganwadis. The district administrations have announced the closure as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
Coastal and Malnad districts have been witnessing heavy showers, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across Karnataka until July 7.
According to the IMD, several districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. An Orange Alert has been issued for parts of South Interior Karnataka, while a Red Alert has been declared for the coastal Karnataka region on July 5 due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall.
The coastal districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada are expected to receive very heavy rainfall, with wind speeds likely to reach 30–40 kmph. In view of the severe weather conditions, the IMD has issued a Red Alert for these three districts.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Ballari, Koppal, Bagalkote, Vijayanagara, and Raichur districts.
The IMD has also warned of rain accompanied by strong winds in the Malnad districts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu, urging residents to remain alert and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.
