Udupi: A private bus driver is being praised for his swift action after driving his bus directly to a hospital when a passenger suddenly became seriously ill during a journey from Shivamogga to Udupi on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred near Perdoor when a passenger’s health deteriorated unexpectedly. After being alerted by the bus conductor, driver Manjunath stopped the vehicle near MIT to assess the situation and noticed symptoms that appeared consistent with a possible heart attack.

Recognizing the seriousness of the medical emergency, Manjunath immediately diverted the bus to the emergency department of a private hospital in Manipal instead of waiting for an ambulance.

The passenger was admitted without delay and received emergency treatment. Hospital sources later confirmed that the individual’s condition is now stable and that recovery is progressing well.

Speaking about the incident, Manjunath said his previous experience as an ambulance driver helped him quickly assess the severity of the situation and make the decision to transport the passenger directly to the hospital, ensuring that valuable time was not lost.

Passengers and local residents have appreciated the driver’s timely response, noting that his presence of mind played an important role in helping the passenger receive prompt medical attention.
