A sudden cloudburst in Arunachal Pradesh led to flash floods in parts of Lower Subansiri and Keyi Panyor districts on Tuesday, causing widespread damage to homes, roads, and agricultural fields.
According to local authorities, intense rainfall over a short period resulted in a rapid rise in water levels, inundating villages and triggering severe flooding. Residents were caught off guard as water rushed through settlements, damaging property and infrastructure.
Weather officials reported significant rainfall in Yachuli of Lower Subansiri district during a 24-hour period. The heaviest downpour occurred during the morning hours, leading to extensive flooding and disruption across the region.
Preliminary assessments indicate that around 15 houses suffered major damage, while a crucial bridge connecting nearby areas was swept away by the strong currents. The loss of the bridge has affected road connectivity and disrupted the movement of vehicles.
Agricultural losses have also been reported, with pineapple, banana, and orange plantations among the crops damaged by the floodwaters. Authorities are still evaluating the full extent of the destruction and financial losses.
Emergency teams and local officials have been monitoring the situation closely. Residents living in vulnerable locations have been advised to remain alert and move to safer areas if necessary.
With forecasts indicating the possibility of more heavy rainfall in the coming days, authorities have urged people in flood-prone regions to exercise caution and follow official advisories.
