Apple Plans Foldable iPhone and Touchscreen MacBook Launch in Bold Ultra Expansion Strategy
Apple is reportedly preparing its first foldable iPhone alongside a new MacBook Ultra with OLED touchscreen display while facing production challenges even as iPhone shipments continue to show strong global growth

Apple is once again preparing for a major shift in its product strategy, and this time the focus appears to be on two ambitious launches. Reports suggest that the company could introduce its first foldable iPhone this year while also working on a completely new MacBook lineup featuring a touchscreen display. Both devices are expected to fall under a possible Ultra branding approach.
Interestingly, Apple has not officially confirmed these devices yet, but leaks and industry reports have already started shaping expectations. The foldable iPhone is being widely referred to as iPhone Ultra in early discussions, continuing Apple’s previous use of the Ultra branding seen in products like the Apple Watch Ultra.
According to reports, the foldable iPhone may adopt a book style design and could feature a thickness of around 9.5 mm when folded and about 4.5 mm when unfolded. In comparison, devices like the iPhone Air and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series highlight how thin modern foldables are becoming, showing Apple may be entering a highly competitive segment. The device is also expected to feature a 48 megapixel primary camera along with a 48 megapixel ultra wide sensor, supported by a battery that could be around 5800 mAh.
Another interesting detail coming from leaks is the possible use of a dual layer UTG and UFG glass structure. This approach may place the display between two thin layers of glass to improve durability. Along with this, Apple is reportedly working on a redesigned hinge system aimed at reducing visible crease lines and improving the overall folding experience.
While the foldable iPhone is generating most of the buzz, Apple is also said to be developing a new MacBook series that could be called MacBook Ultra. This lineup is expected to mark a historic change for Apple laptops, as it may introduce OLED touchscreen displays for the first time in MacBook history.
However, reports also suggest that supply chain challenges, especially related to memory components, could delay the launch timeline. Despite this, the idea of a touchscreen MacBook shows Apple’s intention to experiment more aggressively in the laptop category, which has remained relatively traditional for years.
On the business side, Apple continues to maintain strong momentum in the global smartphone market. In the first quarter of the year, the company secured the top position in global smartphone shipments, recording steady year over year growth of around five percent. The iPhone 17 series has also been receiving strong consumer response, helping Apple strengthen its market leadership.
The combination of a foldable iPhone and a touchscreen MacBook suggests Apple may be preparing for one of its most experimental phases in recent years. While official confirmation is still awaited, expectations are already building around how the company will redefine its premium product ecosystem if these Ultra devices finally become a reality.
