Namma Metro Faces Passenger Anger After 15 Technical Glitches In One Year

Namma Metro has reported repeated technical problems across key Bengaluru lines, leaving passengers stranded and raising fresh questions about maintenance and service reliability.

Bengalurus Namma Metro has come under growing criticism after repeated technical problems disrupted services over the past year. Around 15 such incidents have reportedly affected passengers, with disruptions occurring across the Green, Purple and Yellow Lines.

The issue is significant because Metro has become one of the citys most important public transport options. Around 11 lakh passengers depend on the network every day, many of them choosing it to avoid the traffic and long travel times on Bengaluru roads.

Repeated disruptions have left commuters waiting at stations or stuck during their journeys. Office workers and students have been particularly affected when services slow down or trains stop unexpectedly.

Multiple Metro Lines Affected

Technical issues have been reported on several important corridors. The Green Line, which connects Madavara and Silk Institute, has reportedly experienced a higher number of disruptions.

The Purple Line between Whitefield and Challaghatta and the Yellow Line connecting RV Road with Bommasandra have also faced operational problems. When a technical fault occurs, passengers can be forced to wait for extended periods before normal services resume.

For daily commuters, even a relatively short disruption can create a chain reaction, with crowded platforms and delays continuing long after the initial problem is identified.

BMRCL Plans Backup Transport

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited is now looking at ways to reduce the impact on passengers when technical failures occur. Discussions with the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation are reportedly underway to arrange additional buses whenever Metro services are interrupted.

Under the proposed arrangement, BMRCL could alert BMTC officials as soon as a disruption is detected. Extra buses could then be deployed on the affected route to give passengers another travel option.

BMRCL is also considering a short loop arrangement in certain situations. This would allow trains to continue operating between unaffected stations while the technical issue is being addressed.

Focus On Spare Parts And Maintenance

Officials have also directed teams to bring recurring technical problems to the attention of senior authorities and replace faulty components wherever necessary. The objective is to reduce service disruptions and prevent the same failures from repeatedly affecting commuters.

However, passengers say temporary arrangements alone may not be enough. Some commuters have questioned whether maintenance and preventive inspections are being carried out adequately, given the frequency of technical failures.

For many Bengaluru residents, the expectation from Namma Metro is straightforward. The system needs not only a quick response when something goes wrong but also stronger preventive maintenance so that such disruptions become less frequent.

The coming months will show whether the proposed backup arrangements and replacement of faulty components can improve reliability across the Metro network.
