Gold Worth ₹1 Crore Stolen From Wedding Hall In Bengaluru, Probe Underway
Bengaluru ;In a shocking incident, thieves made away with gold jewellery worth nearly ₹1 crore from a wedding venue in Bengaluru, leaving the family in distress. The theft took place under the limits of Avalahalli police station and came to light a day later.
The complainant, identified as Siruvella Sridevi, a 52-year-old doctor based in the United States, had travelled to Bengaluru on April 18 to attend her nephew’s wedding. She was staying at her brother’s residence in Gangannagar on Ballari Road.
On Wednesday morning, she went to the wedding venue SDP Palace Kalyana Mantapa located on Old Madras Road in Bidarahalli for the function. Around 6:30 pm, her brother handed over a jewellery box containing gold ornaments. Sridevi reportedly wore a few items and kept the remaining jewellery, weighing approximately 725 grams, inside a room at the venue.
She then locked the room and attended the reception function. However, when she later returned, the jewellery was found missing. The fact that the room had been locked has raised serious questions about how the theft was carried out.
Police suspect that someone known to the family or with access to the room could be involved. Investigators are currently examining CCTV footage from the premises and questioning individuals who had access to the room during the event.
Officials stated that there were no signs of forced entry, adding to the suspicion that the theft may have been an insider job. The management of the wedding hall has denied any involvement of their staff in the incident.
The hall manager clarified that the room was locked and the key remained with the complainant, further deepening the mystery. He also said the management is fully cooperating with the police investigation.
A case has been registered, and a detailed probe is underway. Police teams are working to identify suspects and recover the stolen valuables. Senior officers have assured that all angles, including the involvement of acquaintances, are being thoroughly examined.
