Man Arrested For Harassing Mentally Challenged Woman In Kanakapura

Kanakapura: Police have arrested a man for allegedly harassing a mentally challenged young woman by sending obscene messages and videos through WhatsApp. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody following his arrest by rural police.
The arrested individual has been identified as Ramesh (33), a resident of Muddanagatti village in Mandya district. According to police, he used to make late-night calls to the victim and speak in an obscene manner, causing severe distress. A case had been registered at the rural police station based on the complaint.
Investigations have revealed a deeper conspiracy behind the harassment. The victim was earlier acquainted with another accused, Manjunath, a resident of Kurubaradoddi village in Maddur taluk of Mandya district. He had allegedly deceived the woman by promising marriage and collected ₹3.65 lakh from her.
When the victim began demanding her money back, Manjunath reportedly shared her mobile number with Ramesh and instructed him to harass and threaten her. Acting on this, Ramesh allegedly began sending obscene content and making abusive calls to intimidate the woman.
Police have registered an FIR against both accused in connection with the case. While Ramesh has been taken into custody, efforts are underway to trace and arrest the second आरोपी Manjunath, who is currently absconding.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the exploitation of vulnerable individuals and misuse of digital platforms for harassment. Authorities have assured strict action against those involved and urged the public to report such offences promptly.
