Modi announces six guarantees in West Bengal, targets  TMC  govt

Haldia/New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced six key guarantees for West Bengal ahead of the upcoming elections, while launching a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing a rally in the port city of Haldia in Purba Medinipur district, Modi urged voters to remove the TMC from power, accusing it of creating an atmosphere of fear and hindering the state’s development.

“If the entire country is progressing on the path of development, the current government here is pushing the state backwards,” Modi said, describing the TMC administration as “nirmam” (ruthless). He stressed that West Bengal must move towards becoming a developed state and called on voters to support the BJP.

Six guarantees announced
The Prime Minister outlined six assurances aimed at governance reforms and development:

Creation of a fear-free environment and restoration of public trust
Ensuring accountability in public administration
Reopening and investigating corruption and crimes against women allegedly suppressed under TMC rule
Strict action against corrupt leaders and criminals
Ensuring welfare schemes reach all eligible citizens while preventing illegal infiltration
Implementation of the 7th Pay Commission benefits for government employees and teachers
Modi also promised to boost sectors like fisheries and seafood processing, aiming to make the state self-reliant in these areas.

He alleged that investment in the state has suffered due to fear and instability. “Where there is fear, there can be no investment. A BJP government will bring trust and attract investments,” he said.

Focus on women empowerment
Separately, speaking about women’s empowerment, Modi highlighted the proposed amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, stating that it reflects the aspirations of millions of women across the country.

He called on all Members of Parliament to support the legislation, emphasising that it is not merely a legal reform but a step towards strengthening women’s participation in governance.

The Union Cabinet, under his leadership, has already approved the draft amendments, with the aim of implementing women’s reservation from the 2029 general elections.

special parliament session
Modi further informed that Parliament’s Budget Session has been extended, and a special session will be held from April 16 to 18 to deliberate on the proposed bill.

He urged lawmakers to use this opportunity responsibly to uphold constitutional values and contribute to nation-building by empowering women.

The Prime Minister’s announcements are being seen as a key part of BJP’s electoral strategy in West Bengal, where political competition is expected to intensify in the coming months.
