Doctor quits job on first day, alleges unethical practices at private hospital in Chandigarh

Chandigarh : In a shocking revelation that has sparked nationwide debate, a young doctor has exposed alleged unethical practices at a private hospital in Chandigarh, claiming that patients were being treated as “sources of revenue” rather than individuals in need of care.

Dr. Prabhleen Kaur, who had recently joined a reputed private hospital in the city, resigned from her position on the very first day after witnessing what she described as “deeply disturbing” practices. In a video shared on social media, she detailed how the hospital allegedly prioritised profits over patient welfare.

Explaining her decision, Dr. Kaur said, “For me, medical ethics and patient safety come before salary or position. I cannot be part of a system that exploits patients for money.” Her emotional statement has resonated widely online.

According to her allegations, even patients with minor ailments were reportedly being directed to Intensive Care Units (ICU) unnecessarily. “Instead of providing basic treatment, patients were being admitted to ICU directly to increase billing,” she claimed in the video. She further alleged that doctors were pressured by the management to recommend costly tests and procedures, regardless of their necessity.

Dr. Kaur also pointed out that such practices were not isolated but allegedly operated under the supervision of senior medical staff. “There was a structured system in place to maximise revenue. It was not about healing, it was about collection,” she stated.

The video has since gone viral across platforms, triggering strong reactions from the public. Many social media users have praised her courage in speaking out, while others have demanded strict action against the hospital. “The authorities must investigate and cancel the licence if these allegations are proven,” one user commented.

Healthcare experts say that while private hospitals play a crucial role in India’s medical infrastructure, such allegations—if true—raise serious concerns about accountability and ethical standards. “Transparency and strict regulation are essential to ensure patient trust is not compromised,” a healthcare analyst said.

So far, there has been no official response from the hospital in question. Authorities are yet to confirm whether a formal inquiry has been initiated.

The incident has reignited discussions about ethics in the medical profession and the need for stronger oversight mechanisms in private healthcare institutions. It also underscores the importance of whistleblowers in bringing systemic issues to light.

As the video continues to gain traction, many are calling for reforms to ensure that patient care remains the central focus of the healthcare system.
